Key Donors from 1960’s Reinvest in The Village Network’s Gym Construction Project
WOOSTER- Donors involved in the original construction of The Village Network’s Boys’ Village gym are just as invested in the reconstruction project today. After more than 50 years, The Timken Foundation of Canton and Freeman Building Systems will again come alongside The Village Network as it breaks ground for the new Bob Maruna Field House.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the Wooster Residential campus today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include a short program focusing on the future of the building and remembering the history.
In the 1960’s, The Village Network received a $100,000 donation from The Timken Foundation of Canton to fund the construction of both the Boys’ Village school and gymnasium. The original school still stands today and currently houses a charter school for youth in the community who cannot attend public school. This fall, The Timken Foundation of Canton made another gift of $100,000 to fund the construction of the Bob Maruna Field House. Freeman Building Systems, the same family who designed and built the original building, will construct its replacement.
“So much of what we do involves partnering with others in the community to care for our kids. It’s part of our mission statement,” said Rich Graziano, president and CEO of The Village Network. “To see that our partnership with The Timken Foundation of Canton and Freeman Building Systems still exists after generations of leadership on both sides is amazing to me. I’m excited to see what we can do together in the next 50 years.”
