The Village Network Honors Long Time Employee at Ribbon Cutting for the Robert J. Maruna Field House

April 26, 2018

With more than 50 years of service to The Village Network, Bob Maruna is honored for his dedication and involvement in the recreational therapy program then and now.

WOOSTER- As The Village Network celebrates the grand opening of its Robert J.  Maruna Field House, the organization will also celebrate the man who inspired the gymnasium’s new name.

Bob Maruna started working at The Village Network in 1967, just three years after the original construction of the Boys’ Village Gymnasium. As Director of Recreation, Maruna was known as a pioneer in the new and growing field of recreation therapy. He created programs and partnered with other athletic organizations, making recreation a regular activity for the boys. Today, Maruna continues to work part time with The Village Network and remains a familiar face on campus and a notable figure in the community.

In addition to honoring Maruna, The Village Network will also dedicate the gym with a ribbon cutting and reflect on the construction process with a special time lapse video. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place today in the newly reconstructed gym at the Wooster Residential Campus at 11:30 a.m. and will include a short program and catered lunch.

“After months of fundraising efforts, demolition and reconstruction, I’m thrilled to make this space accessible to our youth,” said Richard Graziano, president and CEO of The Village Network.
